The Tesseract Studio received top honors at the 9th Annual European Conference for Game Based Learning in Steinkjer, Norway on Oct. 9, 2015. The Studio’s initial release, Mythos Unbound (CLST 2323), tied for first place in the computer-based games category, and received third place in the overall game competition at the conference. The game was developed starting in November, 2012 by Studio Director Dr. David Fredrick, Technical Director Keenan Cole and a team of 12 student developers. Over the course of nine months, the team developed the first release of the game. It contains roughly 15 hours of game play, supplemented by video lectures and readings such as Homer’s Odyssey and the Oresteia. Each year, the conference features research papers on game-based learning. In 2013 the International Educational Games Competition was incorporated into the conference, covering four categories (web-based, installed on a computer, app based and non-digital games). Participants in the conference represented an array of countries including Ireland, Japan and the Czech Republic. The award was presented to Chloe Costello, Art Lead, and Greg Rogers, Design and Narrative lead, who represented the studio at the conference. Tesseract is currently finishing the Studio's second course, "Saeculum." It will be offered to 150 students in Spring 2016.
